Ambassador Eskindir Yirga is a career diplomat. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia in 2003 and served as Attaché in Consular Affairs until 2004, after which he served as Protocol Officer for the State Minister for Political Affairs (2004-2005) and later for the Foreign Minister (2006-2008).

From 2008 to 2010, he was the Chief Editor at the Public Diplomacy and Communication Directorate General.

In 2011, he was assigned to the Ethiopian Embassy in Kenya as a Counsellor, a position he held until 2014.

Upon returning to Ethiopia in 2015, he was appointed as Chief of Protocol at the Office of the President.

Between 2016 and 2017, he served as Minister Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia to the AU and UNECA.

He then assumed the position of Chief of Cabinet at the Office of the State Minister for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2017 to 2018.

In 2019, he was assigned to the Embassy of Ethiopia in London, UK as Minister and was responsible for leading the Embassy’s Economic and Business Diplomacy activities, followed by a similar role at the Ethiopian Embassy in Berlin, Germany from 2020 to 2021.

Back to Addis Ababa in 2022, he was appointed as the Director for European Affairs and Benelux Countries, later acting as Deputy Director General for Europe and American Affairs and held this position until his appointment as Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Federal Republic of Germany.
