He joined the diplomatic service in 1992, initially serving at the Directorate General for Human Resources and subsequently at the Directorate General for Political Affairs. From 1996 to 2000, he served at the Embassy of Italy in Cairo. He was then posted to the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union in Brussels. Upon his return to Rome in 2004, he was assigned to the Coordination Unit of the Secretariat General. From 2007 to 2013, he was posted at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C. Upon returning to Italy, he was appointed Head of the Afghanistan Unit at the Directorate General for Political Affairs. In January 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary. Subsequently, he was appointed Principal Director for European Integration and later assumed the position of Deputy Director General for the European Union. On January 8, 2020, he assumed office as Ambassador of Italy to Albania. In 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Ambassador. Since January 20, 2025, he has been serving as Ambassador of Italy to Germany. In 2010, he was bestowed the honor of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
