Omurbek Tekebaev began his career in 1981 as a physics teacher at the secondary school named after Toktogul in the village Akman, Bazar-Korgon district, Jalal-Abad region, Kyrgyz Republic;

November 1981-December 1983 Service in the Soviet Army;

1984-1986 Continued to work at the secondary school named after Toktogul in the village Akman, Kyrgyz Republic;

September 1986 Laboratory assistant, Senior preparator, Senior laboratory assistant of the Osh State Pedagogical Institute;

1987-1991 Teacher of physics and mathematics at a secondary school, Methodologist of the methodological office of the department of education at the Bazar-Korgon district, Kyrgyz Republic;

April 1991 Head of the regional department for antimonopoly policy and business support of the Jalal-Abad region, Kyrgyz Republic;

1991-1992 Chairman of the political party «Erkin Kyrgyzstan»;

September 1991 Elected a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, a member of the Committee of the Council of the Republics on Legal Issues;

1992-1994 Deputy Head of the State Administration of the Jalal-Abad region, Kyrgyz Republic;

From 1994 to present-day Chairman of the «Ata Meken» Socialist Party. Temporarily suspended membership in the party from February 3, 2022;

In 2000-2001 was Deputy Toraga (Chairman) of the Legislative Assembly of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic;

2005-2007 Deputy of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic of the Third convocation;

2005-2006 Toraga (Speaker) of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic;

2005 Chairman of the Constitutional Conference;

April-July 2010; Deputy Chairman of the Provisional Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and was appointed as responsible for carrying out constitutional reforms in the country-Chairman of the Constitutional Conference;

October 2010 Elected a Deputy of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic of the 4th convocation, Leader of the «Ata Meken» parliamentary faction;

January 2012 Head of the Commission for further reforming the judicial system of the Kyrgyz Republic;

2015 Elected a Deputy of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic of the 5th convocation, Leader of the «Ata Meken» parliamentary faction;

2011-2016 Member of the Delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly;

2013-2017 Member of the Venice Commission (European Commission for Democracy through Law)

 

Awards:

Honored Lawyer of the Kyrgyz Republic, State Adviser of the State Service of the 1st class; Omurbek Tekebaev was awarded the Order «Manas» II degree with the special badge «Hero of the April People’s Revolution», the Order «Commonwealth» of the Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
