Started his career in the MFA 1989; 1993 – 1997 diplomat at the Tunisian Embassy in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan and followed by the Tunisian Embassy in Bucharest, Romania; 2001 – 2005 Deputy Permanent Delegate of Tunisia to UNESCO, Paris; 2006 – 2009 Attaché in the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affaires in charge of European and multilateral affairs; 2009 – 2014 Deputy Head of Mission at the Tunisian Embassy in Berlin; 2014 – 2015 Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs; 2015 – 2020 Ambassador of Tunisia to Spain, Permanent Representative to the World Tourism Organization, to the Union for the Mediterranean (Barcelona) and to the International Olive Council; 2021 – 2023 Chargé de mission in the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On August 24th 2023, Wacef Chiha presented his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia to Mr. Frank- Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
