Berufliche Laufbahn

He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1978 and served at the Brazilian Mission to the United Nations in New York (1983-1987) and the Embassies in Montevideo (1987-1990) and Washington (2000-2003, as envoy). At the Permanent Mission of Brazil in Geneva, he headed the Intellectual Property and Disarmament Sections (1993-1995). At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brasilia, he was Head of the Intellectual Property and Sensitive Technologies Division (1992), Director General of the Trade Promotion Division (1998-2000) and Head of the Policy Division responsible for Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific (2007-2010). In other government departments, he has served as Secretary for International Affairs at the Ministry of Planning and Budget (1995-1998) and Secretary for Industrial Technology at the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (2003-2005). He has also served as President of the National Institute of Industrial Property - INPI (2005-2007). From 2016 to 2018 he was President of the Brazilian Agency for Investment and Trade Promotion Apex-Brasil. He was Brazil's Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (2010-2015) and to the People's Republic of China and Mongolia (2015-2016).
