ArchivNordArt 2022

A small town in Schleswig-Holstein between Flensburg and Hamburg will be home to international art from June to October. On an exhibition area of more than 22,000 sqm of former industrial halls and 80,000 sqm of park, more than 200 visual artists from 40 nations will present their works. The presentation is one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art in Europe.

This year's country focus is on Poland. The Polish Pavilion is under the patronage of Paweł Jaworski, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Hamburg. Another focus: China. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Germany, NordArt 2022 presents new works by renowned artists from China. A special project is dedicated to contemporary Mongolian art, curated by Oyuntuya Oyunjargal and Solongo Tseekhuu.

The NordArt, which has been taking place since 1999, is a juried exhibition that is redesigned annually as a Gesamtkunstwerk. The monumental halls of the former Carlshütte iron foundry are a fascinating backdrop for paintings, photographs, videos, sculptures and installations. Founded in 1827, the Carlshütte was the first industrial enterprise in the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. The iron foundry was shut down in 1997 and is now an impressive industrial monument. After extensive renovations, the enormous hall aisles and the spacious park area have been providing a spectacular ambience for art and culture in the far north of Germany for over 20 years now.

The host and main sponsor of the Kunstwerk Carlshütte is the entrepreneurial couple Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann.
