On November 19, 2025, the Waldorf Astoria Berlin hosted a distinguished Medical Reception in partnership with Berlin’s tourism board, visitBerlin and the
Diplomatisches Magazin. The evening offered a vibrant forum for exchange, bringing together leading medical specialists from Berlin’s foremost hospitals, representatives of various embassies, and partners from the broader healthcare community. In addition to fostering dialogue, the event encouraged cross-cultural and interdisciplinary collaboration. Among the distinguished guests were many high profile physicians from the leading clinics in Berlin.
Berlin – A Premier Destination for International Healthcare

Berlin’s healthcare landscape is both extensive and highly advanced. With 88 hospitals and more than 11,400 physicians, the city treated approximately 700,000 inpatients in 2023. Each year, many international patients choose Berlin for medical treatment—drawn by state-of-the-art therapeutic options, highly trained multilingual teams, and individualized care. Clinics across the city offer comfort wards, telemedicine solutions, and culturally adapted services. The Berlin Health Excellence platform (www.berlin-health-excellence.com) provides in-depth information for international patients, offering access to more than 30 medical institutions and 85 leading specialists across a wide range of disciplines.

An Evening of Insight, Innovation, and Exchange

The reception underscored Berlin’s strong position within the global healthcare landscape. Michaela Kehrer, Medical Tourism Manager at visitBerlin, highlighted the city’s commitment to excellence, collaboration, and international patient care. Prof. Dr. Roger Wahba presented key developments in cancer treatment and emphasized Berlin’s unique strengths, including large medical centers with internationally recognized surgical departments, certified cancer centers operating under rigorous European standards, a dense network of research institutions and medical technology companies, and high-volume oncology units performing complex procedures on a daily basis. He further outlined the ambitious vision of positioning Berlin as “Health City No. 1.”  The Waldorf Astoria provided an elegant and sophisticated backdrop for the evening’s conversations. As noted by Jan Martensen, Director of Government Sales, the hotel is equipped to meet the specific needs of guests undergoing medical treatment in Berlin.
