The Dominican Republic celebrates
The Ambassador of the Dominican Republic, H.E. Joseline Pujol, welcomes the guests to the concert hall
There was a concert by the renowned pianist Maestro Michel Camilo. He is a contemporary pianist and composer working in the jazz and classical genres. As a pianist and producer, he has won several Grammys and an Emmy Award. It was incredible what this artist conjured up with his hands. Influences from classical music, jazz, reggae and Caribbean rhythms merged in a storm across the keys, prompting a standing ovation from the audience.
In her welcome address, the Ambassador spoke about the importance of tourism, with around 200,000 visitors annually who not only visit the island’s sights but also appreciate its beaches, holiday resorts and golf courses. The impressive landscape ranges from rainforests and savannahs to the highlands, including Pico Duarte, the highest mountain in the Caribbean. But it is not only tourism that is important; increasingly, the diverse economic and cultural ties are also significant. At a reception following the concert, there was ample opportunity to discuss the concert and share personal travel experiences.
