Brazil's National Day

It was the first reception held by the new Brazilian Ambassador to Germany. H.E. Rodrigo Baena Soares gave his introductory speech to around 800 guests at the Brazilian Embassy on Wallstraße in Berlin-Mitte.

Germany has played a key role in shaping Brazil as a diverse, modern country through immigration, cooperation and industrialisation. German investment had helped to make Brazil one of the most industrialised countries in the Global South. Brazil is proud of its diversity in foreign and economic relations, culture, and different ethnicities and faiths. This diversity had enabled Brazil to build a strong democracy. Shared values and concepts form the basis of the close relations with Germany, including through the MERCOSUR free trade agreement.

At the COP30 climate conference in Brazil in November, both countries should insist on moving from negotiation to implementation. And the 2026 Hannover Messe trade fair, with Brazil as the partner country, is a major step forward for the bilateral partnership. „Brazil is immeasurably rich in resources that are essential for any energy transition process – from rare earths to hydrogen, from green fertilisers to low-carbon cement and steel – and has the infrastructure to extract, process and export these resources to Germany and the rest of the world“, the Ambassador said.

Dr Géza Andreas von Geyr, State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office, also emphasised the strategic partnership, shared values and good bilateral relations. Dr Georg Witschel provided information about the German-Brazilian Society, which has been promoting bilateral relations between Brazil and Germany for more than 60 years, and thanked the numerous sponsors of the reception.
