25 June marks the 35th anniversary of the 1991 Declaration of Independence. In her welcoming address, the Ambassador emphasised the close political, economic, cultural and social ties between the two countries, particularly as Germany has supported Slovenia on its path towards European and transatlantic integration since its independence. State Secretary Dr Thomas Steffen also spoke of the partnership-based ties between the two countries. Regular meetings at government and ministerial level ensure coordination on issues of European integration, security, energy and climate protection. 
Germany is a very important trading partner, and many German companies work with Slovenian suppliers or make substantial investments locally. Tourism in both directions is also growing in importance, and it is helpful that many Slovenians speak German due to their historical background. The Slovenian Armed Forces’ jazz ensemble provided the musical highlight of the evening.
