National Day Algerien

26.11.2025

H.E. Larbi El Hadj Ali, the Ambassador of Algeria, delivers a passionate address on the occasion of his country’s National Day

“Seventy-one years ago, on 1 November 1954, the Algerian people, through a collective effort, took the initiative to alter the course of history and to speak out clearly in launching the struggle to liberate their country from colonial occupation and to regain its independence.”

With these words, H.E. Larbi El Hadj Ali, the Ambassador of Algeria, began his speech marking Algeria’s National Day, recalling the painful history of the seven-and-a-half-year war of liberation in the mid-twentieth century, which claimed 1.5 million lives. He bowed his head in honour of “those martyrs who enabled Algeria to restore its freedom and dignity”, adding that the Algerian nation today draws its strength from this collective memory.
The Ambassador emphasised that the present-day struggle lies in using democracy responsibly and uniting forces to confront the many challenges facing Algeria. Chief among these are far-reaching reforms aimed at strengthening the rule of law and creating opportunities for the younger generation. Despite difficult global conditions, Algeria is witnessing positive economic developments.
He further underlined Algeria’s international engagement: as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Algeria is working to ensure that the international community moves from crisis management towards sustainable solution-management, in order, among other aims, to prevent tragedies such as the “Palestinian tragedy”.
H.E. Larbi El Hadj Ali also paid tribute to the excellent relations between Algeria and Germany and concluded with warm greetings and thanks to the Algerian diaspora in Germany, who had followed the embassy’s invitation in great numbers.
The official part of the celebrations marking the 71st Anniversary of the Revolution concluded with the opening of a magnificent buffet on 26 November 2025 at the Titanic Hotel on Berlin’s Chausseestraße.
