National Day Malta

“Who would have thought it? Malta, which was so badly affected during World War II, has become the fastest growing economy in Europe.” These were the words of the Ambassador of the Republic of Malta, H.E. Marlene Bonnici, at a reception held at her residence on September 23 to mark Malta's 61st Independence Day and 60 years of diplomatic relations between Malta and Germany.

This small country with a big history has many surprises to offer. Not only do large companies such as Siemens have branches there, but Lufthansa Technik also has its aircraft serviced there. Playmobil, whose world's largest factory is located in Malta, is probably found in every child's room. The beaches with their crystal-clear water, the historical sites dating back to prehistoric times and older than the pyramids, the cultural offerings, and the culinary diversity are very popular. And not to be forgotten is Maltese hospitality, which is based on respect and tolerance, as was evident this evening.
